Web Resources: National Novel Writing Month

by Brandon

Have you always wanted to write the great American novel, but haven't been able to find the time to commit your thoughts to paper? National Novel Writing Month is this November 1st-30th. Since 1999, the National Novel Writing Month has given aspiring writers the challenge of crafting their own stories in a freewheeling, fast-paced manner. The goal is to write a 175 page novel, or roughly what amounts to 50,000 words, in one month. Registration for this year's challenge starts on October 1.

Are you up to the challenge? If so, please feel free to check out the National Novel Writing Month website. Also, check out this article from the NWP website for a great article on writing a novel.

Web Resources - SMART Boards

Do you have a SMART Board? Do you seldom have time to actually create new content for the SMART Board? We all know it can take a laborious amount of time to create effective SMART Board programs. Luckily, teachers are a sharing group of people. Want proof? This website came across my e-mail via the NWP Tech Liaison list-serv. Wichita Public Schools have established a website for district teachers to post SMART Board ideas online. Check it! Who knows? You may find something valuable!

Introducing the Winthrop Writing Project Blog!

by Brandon Morgan

Welcome to the new Winthrop Writing Project blog! This blog has been set-up by the leadership team at WWP. This blog will be for teachers by teachers.

My name is Brandon Morgan and I am the technology liaison for the Winthrop Writing Project. This blog began as a dream last summer and is finally coming to fruition this summer. Along with the new blog, the core website will be updated soon. This not only part of our improvement plan for our web presense, but it will hopefully be an important part of our instructional practice with teachers.

We want this blog to be a collaborative process between many teachers across the different subject and grade levels. The articles on this site will deal with a variety of topics including professional reading and writing, personal writing, and even WWP announcements. Feel free to comment on any of the articles you may read. Our goal is to connect teachers to better reading and writing instruction practice and share experiences between teachers.

This will be a great, new experience for all of us at WWP. Be patient with us! We are learning this blogging process as we go along. We will be adding authors from the WWP leadership team as we go along.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me.
